SC Gun Laws: “Open Carry” Bill passes Senate subcommittee

Posted on

South Carolina is 1 of 6 states where open carry is still illegal

A bill that would allow the carrying of a firearm in plain sight passed the SC Senate Subcommittee Wednesday. The proposal, which is sponsored by Senators Lee BrightLarry GroomsKevin BryantDanny VerdinTom Davis, and Shane Martin, will now move to the full committee next.

Senate Bill S115  does not replace the current Concealed Weapons Permit law, but rather, adds an additional legal method of possession of a firearm. Currently South Carolina is one of only six states in the country that does not allow for open carrying  (NY, FL, AR, IL, SC, TX).
